How to convert frequency & wavelength

All 35 frequency & wavelength units are converted through a single base unit, so any unit can be converted to any other. Enter a value, choose the units and press Convert, or open a conversion page for the exact factor and a reference table.

For example, 1 hertz (Hz) = 1e-18 exahertz (EHz).

Frequency & Wavelength unit definitions

Hertz (Hz)
The hertz is the SI unit of frequency: one cycle per second. Mains electricity is 50 or 60 Hz, and human hearing spans roughly 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
Terahertz (THz)
A terahertz is 10¹² hertz, between microwaves and infrared light.
Gigahertz (GHz)
A gigahertz is one billion cycles per second, the range of Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz), mobile networks and processor clocks.
Megahertz (MHz)
A megahertz is one million cycles per second. FM radio sits around 88 to 108 MHz.
Kilohertz (kHz)
A kilohertz is 1,000 cycles per second, the range of audio tones and AM radio.
Wavelength in Metres (wavelength (m))
Wavelength in meters is the distance between successive wave peaks. For electromagnetic waves it is the speed of light divided by the frequency, so a 300 MHz signal has a wavelength of about 1 m.
Wavelength in Nanometres (wavelength (nm))
Wavelength in nanometers is used for light: visible light spans about 380 nm (violet) to 700 nm (red).
