How to convert viscosity
All 5 viscosity units are converted through a single base unit, so any unit can be converted to any other. Enter a value, choose the units and press Convert, or open a conversion page for the exact factor and a reference table.
For example, 1 poise (P) = 0.1 pascal seconds (Pa·s).
Viscosity unit definitions
- Pascal Seconds (Pa·s)
- The pascal-second is the SI unit of dynamic viscosity. Water at 20 °C is about 0.001 Pa·s, and honey is several Pa·s.
- Millipascal Seconds (mPa·s)
- A millipascal-second is one thousandth of a pascal-second and identical to a centipoise. Water at 20 °C is about 1 mPa·s.
- Centipoise (cP)
- A centipoise is one hundredth of a poise, exactly 1 millipascal-second. It is the traditional unit for liquids; water is about 1 cP at 20 °C.
- Poise (P)
- The poise is the CGS unit of dynamic viscosity, exactly 0.1 pascal-second.
